Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician
Most Volunteer EMTs seek to serve their communities as emergency responders and require more flexibility to meet work/life balance needs. Some use this opportunity as a stepping stone to pursue a careers in nursing, medicine or the fire service. Position Description
Eastside Fire & Rescue volunteers perform many of the same duties as the paid staff, including responding to all types of emergency calls: structure, vegetation, vehicle, and other fires; medical calls; vehicle accidents; public service assists, etc. Volunteers also assist with equipment maintenance before and after calls, assist with station cleaning and maintenance, and participate in community service and public education functions.

The Department desires community responders who will serve their neighbors in times of need. Volunteers must hold the highest standards to ensure everyone's safety and public confidence. To that end, we are looking for motivated individuals who will constantly improve themselves in order to provide safe and courteous service. An Eastside volunteer emergency medical technician must:
- Complete EMT certification with the King County Department of Health. Our EMS Coordinator will assist you in registering for classes and completing the licensing process.
- Attend a weekly drill on Wednesday OR Thursday evenings. At drill, you will work with your fellow Firefighters and EMTs as a team training with equipment or completing State-required safety training.
- Work 8 hours per month with a professional fire crew, perfecting your skills while responding on calls.
Additionally, we ask you to get involved in community events and respond on emergency calls, as needed.
